Shame Off You!

Mark chapter 15 describes little of Jesus physical suffering on the cross.  Instead Mark focuses on the shame Jesus endured in the events surrounding his death.  How significant is shame?  And how is Jesus the answer for the shame that simmers just below the surface of everything in our lives?  Wouldn't it be great to live out of honor rather than shame?  

Running from Shame

People run from frantically from shame, seeking to be covered, wanted, and cleaned.  They run into more shame.  Jesus never ran from shame.  He embraced the shame of others without fear and conquered it.  Isaiah 53 prophesies the shame of the suffering messiah, Jesus.  Isaiah 54 is the response.  It takes the deepest shame of ancient times and commands it to rejoice and recieve honor.  Why?  Because of what the Messiah, Jesus has done to inihilate shame!

Genesis 3:7 describes shame as the first consequence of people living with a Godless soul.  What is shame and how does it play out in our lives?  And how did Jesus defeat my shame at the cross?  This is deeply significant truth to all of us!

The path is a person.  His name is Jesus.  He is the personification of wisdom.  When we follow Him we choose 'the way, the truth, and the life'.  We have all walked wrong paths that have lead to destinations of destruction and death.  So how do you change paths?

Have you ever heard someone say "How did I end up here?  How did it come to this?"  People end up in unintended places in life all the time.  Proverbs 1-9 uses the illustration of a path, a way, for life.  In life, you choose your path, not your destination.  No matter what you say is your destination, it is the path you choose that determines that destination, not your words.

Touch This!

What does it mean in John 20:27 that the mortal Thomas was allowed to touch the immortal Jesus to provide evidence for Jesus' resurrection?  Jesus admonished Thomas to "Stop doubting and believe!"  To which Thomas replied "My Lord and my God!"  Those were important words for Thomas.  They are important words for us as well!
